The Oak Lawn Girls basketball team ended off a great season with a final record of 19-12. The team was a connected group that bonded with each other’s presence and improved together as a team.
There were 2 new records set by seniors Bianca Fleitas and Sara Abdelrahman. Thanks to the time and dedication off-season and during practice they were able to make great history for their last season playing for the Oak Lawn basketball program.
Bianca Fleitas has a 42 point record vs Richards. Bianca was hitting 3’s, getting to the rim, and knocking down her free throws. Coach Sevedge the Oak Lawn Girls basketball coach says, “Bianca is a dynamic player, and to see her break the single-game scoring record in that way was awesome. She has worked so hard during her four years here, and she has earned the right to have her name on the record board in the Spartan gym.” This just shows how much time and effort Bianca has put in whether it was during summer workouts or during practice that helped her improve as a player and helped her develop skills that helped her team during games.
Sara Abdelrahman has also set a record of three-pointers. Sara hit 10 three-pointers to break Maeve Hassett’s record of 9. Coach Sevedge says, “Sara has spent countless hours in the gym during the off-season improving her game and working on her shot, that it just proves how much players can accomplish when they put in that extra effort.” What was really amazing is that Sara hit that three-point record on senior night in front of many friends and family.
The Oak Lawn basketball girls have put in so much time and effort to improve together and strategize game plans. Senior Emma Delberto was a huge contributor for the team and made so much progress from last season. Junior Olivia Perry spent countless hours in the gym and was named to the all-conference team. She has a ton of experience and responsibilities on and off the court which led her to help lead in scoring. Senior Briany Lara has refined greatly since her freshman year. She put in a ton of work during off-season and during practices and she pushed her tee mates everyday to make them grow and get better. Kenadie Haubenreiser who transferred got adjusted well to a new school and adapted well to learning the system of how the Oak Lawn girls basketball team works. She had a very impactful season as the season continued.
The Oak Lawn girls basketball programs strong dedication and love for the game helped them ameliorate their struggles and not let that stop them during the game. The team was so happy and wanted to sacrifice to help build new records and help their teammates improve. The girls not only listened to their coaches feedback but also improvised it into their practices and games.
As the season came to a close, the Oak Lawn Girls basketball team showed that their success was about more than just wins and records. They built strong chemistry, trusted one another in big moments, and continued to compete with confidence and heart. Every practice, tough loss, and hard-fought victory helped shape them into a stronger unit. Their leadership, resilience, and commitment to improving every day set a great example for future players in the program. This season will be remembered not only for the records that were broken, but for the teamwork and determination that defined the group.
