The girl’s swim team is about halfway through their season for the school year 2023-24 and they have had immense success up until now. Competitive swimming is a sport that requires a lot of time, dedication, and effort in order for it to be successful.
Alessandra Gabriel is a stupendous example of all three attributes listed above. Alessandra, or as her teammates like to call her, “Alie” is a Junior attending Oak Lawn Community High School and has had great success in terms of academics and after-school activities, one of which includes competitive swimming. Gabriel has been swimming since the age of 9 and has fallen in love with the sport since then, and her passion keeps growing. In order for you to be able to grasp the level of her success, she started competing on varsity her freshman year of high school and has since competed in a multitude of events. Currently, Gabriel competes in the 500 and 200 free swims and all of the relay races. But this success doesn’t just appear out of thin air, in fact, Gabriel practices every day of the week in order to maintain and improve her technique.
In fact, In her freshman year, Gabriel broke the pool record for the 200 freestyle relay and the varsity 400 free relay. In her sophomore year, she broke the record for the 500 free relay, the 200 free relay, and the varsity 200 free relay.
Alexandra Woehlert, the head coach of the Oak Lawn Girls Swim team, says “She is a very dedicated athlete and an all-around great leader. This year she is named one of the team’s co-captains.
