A couple of weeks ago, our Mathletes team here at OLCHS had their first competition of the season at Oak Forest High School. Many of the members would tell you it was exciting but nerve wracking. It was the first in-person competition in two years (what with the pandemic happening), which definitely made it feel a little more serious. With only a week’s worth of preparation, though, the team certainly did fantastic, taking first place out of the five schools competing at Oak Forest, and third place overall. Mrs. Nicholson, one of the Mathletes sponsors, said in her sixteen years here, we have never placed so high overall! As a sophomore and new member on the team myself, it was certainly a fun experience. I was nervous at first, but excited, and when we were told how high we scored, it definitely made us all extremely happy and proud of ourselves. The next competition for Mathletes is Wednesday, September 22. Wishing us luck, and hoping that we do just as great as we did last time!
