Oak Lawn Boys Bowling team starts their season off with a bang. Thirteen games into the season also comes with thirteen wins to their name. In addition, they have a conference record of 6-0 thus far.
The season kicked off on November 10, and since then, the boys have been on a roll, striking out any competition they face.
The boys came in first place at the Spartan Invite tournament for the second year in a row, and they are looking to continue their success at the next upcoming tournament.
The biggest wins so far in their incredible season have been against Lincoln Way Central and Sandburg. Thanks to well-experienced bowlers, the boys are leading their team with averages of 215 pins a game. Justin Canvin, Peter Garcia, and Charlie Dell are playing their best and are helping their team make it far this year.
Garcia is having a great season. He bowled the highest possible score–a 300–on November 17, against Stagg. He wasn’t done with perfection, however. At the Andrew Invitational on Dec. 13, he bowled another 300 and helped the Spartans with the invite championship. He took second place individually.
As the season continues, the team is looking forward to the South Suburban Conference meet on January 9. Last year the boys bowling team brought home first place in the conference, and they hope to do so again.
Winning conference again is not the only goal the bowling team has this year. They also wish to make it to the Illinois High School Association State Finals as a team. Last year, Canvin, made it individually, but the team as a whole missed out by just 30 pins. This year, the boys are training hard to not face the same outcome and reach new heights as a team.
Coach Kevin Walery shares, āIām very optimistic about this year because the team has come together and are supporting each other well.ā
All things are looking good for the boys this year. Wish them luck as they bowl their way to possible state glory.
