This year’s annual Pop’s Concert blended new and old classics performed by band, choir, and guitar ensemble members. Old classics, such as a Michael Jackson medley and “Take on Me” rocked the house for the parents while the students enjoyed some of their favorite songs.

The band performed instrumental highlights from the Harry Potter movies and “Remember Me” from Disney-Pixar’s Coco, which was once again highlighted by the choirs as the senior song for the class of 2018. Bella Armonia performed a song by pop a cappella group Pentatonix that relied heavily on body percussion. Guitar ensemble also took a different approach to their usual string heavy sound with a vocal accompaniment by one of their own members.

The standout performance, however, has to be given to Wind Ensemble for their performance of “My Shot” from the Tony award winning musical Hamilton. Senior Jonathan Mclawhorn stole the show as he rapped along to his classmates’ instrumentals. His infectious energy got many students grooving along and rapping out their own version of the words.

In all, it was an evening filled with joyous singing and tears as seniors said goodbye to the program they had lived in for their four years of high school. They will be missed, but the show must go on. Let’s look forward to what the music department has planned for next year!
