Oak Lawn Soccer Makes History
The varsity boys’ soccer team had an excellent season and placed 11th seed in the regional tournament. The boys were able to skip the first round because of their astounding record during the regular season. They were matched up against the three seed Lockport. Lockport was said to be a tough challenge having won more games than Oak Lawn while also being in a tougher conference. Oak Lawn though came out strong and managed to beat Lockport 2-0. After the first minute, Captain Mike Szaflarski broke the standstill with a stellar header into the back of the net. Not even two minutes passed after the first goal and they had already scored another. The second goal was scored by junior wingback, Cody Figus. A cross went back post in for an easy tap while penetrating Lockport yet another time. Thus creating the score to be 2-0 hardly 3 minutes after the start of the game. The rest of the game resulted in a tough battle between Lockport by not being able to score anymore goals against them. The boys then stood back and weathered the storm to finish the game 2-0. Captain Mike Szaflarski had this to say after the game, “If we would have not worked as a team we would not have won.” The boys will be playing in the Regional Championships versus Marist on Saturday, October 24th.
