Girls Softball season is set to start. Girls softball is all about teamwork, determination, and having fun on the field!
This year there are nine returning players, and seven of the nine returning plays are seniors. The seven seniors are Kaitlyn Berkery, Teagan Krzystof, Danielle Dempsey, Katie Casey, Kasey Jackson, Flor Martinez, and Charvelle Mclain.
Many of these girls are multi-sport athletes who are doing amazing in academics and are kicking it off in athletics!
Head coach Shawn Neubauer says, “Kaitlyn Berkery and Kasey Jackson are our main pitchers, and we are looking for them to have a strong senior season.”
They are hoping for some great conference games this year, but I’m sure that wouldn’t be a problem with this amazing group of girls.
Danielle Dempsey had 52 hits last season, which was the best on the team and is ranked near the top in single-season hits in Oak Lawn Community High School history. She had a team-high batting average of .468 and is ready to make new records her senior season.
Kamya Feigl is a relative newcomer to the varsity team. As a freshman last year, she was brought up from junior varsity to the varsity level towards the end of the season and was able to adjust very well. She is a young player with huge potential to be one of the better players on the team and in conference.
Neubauer says, “We have some great teams in the conference. Every game is going to be a battle. There will not be one game that is going to be easy. Our expectations for conference are to go into each game playing together, being good teammates, and competing. With all three of those things, we will get wins.”
We are all looking forward to seeing students at the girls varsity softball games as they practice to become better and better each day. As the season progresses, we are look for more thrilling games, outstanding performances, and unforgettable moments. Stay tuned for all the action and continue to support our girls varsity softball team.
