With OLCHS spring sports starting soon, not only do we have new sports seasons to look forward to but new coaches as well. English and World Languages teacher at OLCHS, Ms. Kate Stanton, will be a new upcoming coach for the 2025 boys tennis season.
Stanton herself has extensive experience with the sport of tennis. Stanton started playing tennis as a young child which eventually led her to playing club tennis, and playing on the varsity team at Lyons Township High School for all four years. Stanton is a level 3.5 player in the United States Tennis Association (USTA).
With an optimistic mindset, Stanton is ready to take on the title of varsity tennis coach.
“I am very excited for the opportunity! I have many ideas for how to elevate our program here, and I can’t wait to get started with this year’s team. I know stepping into a new coaching role comes with challenges, but I’m looking forward to getting to know the players and helping them grow both on and off the court,” said Stanton.
“I love tennis and I saw this as an opportunity I did not want to pass up,” Stanton said. “This position allows me to share my passion for the game while mentoring young players. Tennis is a lifelong sport, and I want to help these players develop skills they can use both competitively and recreationally for years to come.”
Even though spring sports haven’t begun yet, Stanton has a vision on how this season will unfold.
“The season will focus on skill development, strategy, and fitness. We’ll have structured practices that include drills, match play, and conditioning. I also want to emphasize mental toughness, so we’ll work on match preparation, handling pressure, and staying focused during competition. Team bonding is also important, so I’ll incorporate fun activities that build camaraderie,” said Stanton.
“I expect the team to work hard, improve their skills, and compete with intensity. Wins are always great, but my main expectation is that the players develop their game, support one another, and gain confidence in their abilities. I’d love to see our team make a strong showing in the conference and potentially advance in postseason play.”
With Stanton now joining the Oak Lawn Athletic program as a new coach, we hope to see many successes during the 2025 boys tennis season.
