National Honor Society inductions occurred this year on November 4th, 2024. With nearly 80
new members, the prestigious organization looks forward to welcoming these outstanding
individuals.
New members were welcomed into the organization by signing their names in the National
Honor Society book and walking across the PAC stage, an annual tradition at Oak Lawn. New
inductees were then paired with current National Honor Society members and were officially
inducted after reciting the National Honor Society promise.
At Oak Lawn Community High School, the National Honor Society does many things. They
sponsor service projects such as Share your Soles and Sock the Court and motivate students to
get involved within the Oak Lawn community by requiring students to be a member of at least 2
clubs and/or activities in order to become a member.
Co-Presidents Rihana Osmani and Dylan Walsh, Vice President Kamil Schab, Treasurer Layan
Atra, and Secretary Alie Gabriel all spoke on what it means to be a member of the National
Honor Society. Each officer then lit a candle to honor the core values of the organization.
“It was very exciting to see the new members be inducted,” Current member Maggie Sheehan
said. “I enjoyed the ceremony.”
Dr. May, this year’s guest speaker, gave an emphatic speech about the core values of the
National Honor Society and how everyone should keep them in mind when making decisions
during our last few years at Oak Lawn, as well as in the future.
“I felt really proud when I got inducted,” New member Mya Orozco shared. “It made me feel
really happy to walk across that stage.”
The National Honor Society welcomed new members at their meeting last month and the
officers are looking forward to their upcoming Winter Party at the December meeting.
“We’re excited to welcome these new members into our club,” Vice President Kamil Schab
stated. “I’m excited to see what we are going to do in this club for the rest of the year
