As the Winter sports season kicks off, the OLCHS Girls Basketball team is fired up and excited about the incoming season. The basketball team is highly-dedicated and works not only during the winter season but throughout the spring, summer, and fall. The basketball team’s head coach, Mark Sevedge, says, “Our off-season regimen began last March with spring workouts and open gyms. In the month of June, we had camp four days a week and played 22 summer league games.”
All the work the girls and coaches have put in leaves them all feeling ready and confident for this season. “I feel that the work we have put in the off-season should produce good results,” Sevedge said. Senior Teagan Krzystof, who has been playing on varsity since her freshman year, claims, “I think it’ll be a great season since we have a lot of experience coming back.” Sophomore Olivia Perry says, “Our team has been putting in the work constantly to prepare for the season ahead, and I’m confident in our ability to execute and dominate this season.”
Coaches and players across the board are feeling positive and doubtless about the 2024-2025 season. There are nine seniors returning to the varsity line up this year as well as four juniors and a sophomore. These players have been training with the basketball program and each other to increase their ability to win the South Suburb an Conference Red championship for the fifth year in a row.
Last year the varsity team finished with a record of 18-13. It’s evident that the goal of all players and coaches is to pursue their five-peat. Perry says, “Our team has been working towards the fifth straight SSC Red Conference Championship.” Krzystof shares, “As a team our goal is to continue our conference winning streak and win five years in a row. I’d love nothing more more than to wrap up my senior year with 1 last conference win for this great program.”
Not only is conference championship the goal for these strong willed girls but individual and personal targets to achieve are on their list too. Junior, Emma Delberto says, “I want to grow as a better player during this season and improve my game.” Krzystof says, “A personal goal for myself is to break my own record I set last year for most three-point shots made in a season.”
The coaches and team have a strong drive and heavy motivation for this season. It’ll be an exciting season and intriguing journey to the conference championship. The season officially started November 19, with a victory on the road at Morton High School.
We wish good luck to the girls and hope they achieve their goals this season.
