The Oak Lawn Community High School Drumline destroyed Richards with their amazing skills on September 12, at Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School. The students at OLHMS witnessed the showdown. Mr. Paul Levy, the band director, was pleased with the event.
“Thursday went amazing,” Levy said. “It’s always fun to go and perform for the middle school students, to get them excited to come and join us.”
The Oak Lawn Drumline and Richards Drumline went back and forth, each playing a different cadence every time and taking small breaks to talk to the OLHMS band members about what the band is like in high school.
Afterwards, the high school bands were given pizza by the lovely parent volunteers and answered some of the students’ questions before heading back to their respective schools.
Here is what one of the Drumline members had to say about the performance.
“I would definitely do it again,” freshman Jayden Triplett said. “Seeing younger kids be inspired by you is a crazy feeling. I had to remind myself at one point I was that kid. Seeing old band teachers and kids you used to go to school with is my reminder that I made it.”
Other than that, the OLCHS Band has lots of events planned for the school year. They play at every home football game and have in-school field trips.
These include the Band Tour in December where they play at OLHMS and Simmons, and in April, the Music Department is taking a trip to Disney World!
