For many teachers Oak Lawn Community High School has become a second home to them. For a few teachers at OLCHS, 2024 is their final year teaching here.
Mr.Hennelly is a math teacher who has been teaching at Oak Lawn since 2005. He has previously taught Algebra 1, Geometry, Intermediate Algebra, Precalculus Honors, AP Computer Science A, and AP Computer Science Principles.
“What I have enjoyed most is teaching some amazing students. I really enjoyed working with a great staff and the most epic, best math department”, said Hennelly, “my time here flew by. Yes, time is relative. Unlike waiting in the dentist office, time has flown by which indicates I have had fun and fulfilling days.”
With having 19 years of teaching experience at Oak Lawn, many bonds and memories have formed with Mr. Hennelly.
“Recently my student was visiting MIT. During a tour of the design studios, the tour coordinator asked my student ‘what high school do you attend’? ‘OLCHS’. ‘Does Pat Hennelly still work there?’ The teacher tour guide is my high school friend and was my college roommate at U of I. Funny world we live in. Everything meaningful is the people. Everything else is temporary.”, said Hennelly, “I would say my milestones have been my students’ milestones. Many have gone on to elite universities and have great jobs.”
Mr.Hennelly has made such a strong impact in the OLCHS community, it will be very hard not having him here anymore.
