Diversity, culture, and tradition are very familiar to Oak Lawn Community High School. OLCHS has a diverse number of clubs which celebrate culture and tradition. These clubs include, Muslim Student Association, Arabic Honor Society, International Club, Black Student Union, Bible Club, and OLAS Club. This year a new club has been added to the list. Polish Culture Club celebrates Polish culture in a way that brings Polish students closer to their homeland. It is sponsored by Mr. Kuchyt and Mrs. Kolimas who were inspired by Club President Kasia (formally known as Katarzyna Bienias) who wanted to “Promote the beauty of the Polish language and the richness of Polish culture and history”. Polish Culture Club has already made its mark in OLCHS, instantly becoming a favorite club. The meetings are fun, informational, and interactive. Klaudia Turza exclaims, “I really enjoy the club! It’s nice to get together with everyone and it’s super fun. We do many fun activities, learn about Polish traditions, and being with other people in your culture makes this experience even better.” The club has met on numerous occasions with one meeting in specific standing out. An informational meeting where the members made paper crowns as they learned about the history of the Three Kings Day. The upcoming meeting will celebrate Easter as the club members draw custom designs on Wooden Easter eggs. Despite the clubs massive success, Kasia, Mr. Kuchyt, and Mrs. Kolimas have not stopped trying to improve the club even more. Polish Culture Club seems to never run out of plans with some upcoming events being, annual club picnics, end of the year parties, Christmas eve dinner with Polish food, and the biggest plan of all, a possible club trip to Poland. Kasia’s primary reason for starting this club was to, “develop a sense of culture and community within the school” which has been achieved to a spectacular measure. Polish Culture Club meets every Thursday in Room 372. For any more information, Contact advisors Mr. Kuchyt or Mrs. Kolimas.
