While course selection for 2024 is being wrapped up, there’s still time to change up your schedule. There are certain classes students tend to look right past, and on this list has been AP art history. There hasn’t been quite enough students enrolled to run a full class. The name suggests the course is very niche and rigorous, but this isn’t the case.
The biggest misconception students have about AP art history is that it requires you to make art, which isn’t the case. Instead, this course is all about learning how to identify paintings and how they fit into the time period they were created in. The only prerequisite course to enroll is world history l & ll. This course may be labeled as an art class, it’s perfect for anyone interested in history or English. Junior, Crystal Martinez, who has tried to enroll in AP art history since her sophomore year, had said “It would be really cool to dive deeper into art as a person who appreciates art, rather than one with artistic talent.”
If you need any more reason to ask your counselor to add AP art history to your schedule, the class will be small, which means there will be more one-on-one time with the teacher (which would be Ms.Cooper!). All AP classes also give students the chance to potentially earn a college credit. For the sake of your future and the students eager to take the course, please join!
