Every year new teachers enter new schools and positions in order to seek new opportunities for growth and professional development . This year Kathleen Miller has earned a new position at OLCHS, and Kathleen Stanton is brand new to OLCHS.
Kathleen Miller has moved into a classroom this year and teaches Reading Strategies, English 2, and English 3. “The transition was really smooth, and I am really thankful to the English department, my teaching teams, and my mentor, Mrs. Johnson, for helping me out any time I needed it. They made a new position less stressful and are really supportive and encouraging. I love working at OLCHS”, Miller said. “I believe we have a really special school and community. I actually student taught here when I was in college, and I was so excited to come back and be a Spartan again. I really enjoy being back in the classroom and teaching English. Every day is brand new, and my students are awesome. I learned so much about students and building relationships with them when I was in the Behavioral Intervention Room, and I truly believe it has made me a better teacher. Transitioning to a new position and getting back into the swing of lesson plans, grading and prepping lessons while being in volleyball season was a bit difficult at first, but now I’ve found my stride and am managing well.”
Kathleen Stanton is a new teacher to OLCHS and teaches English 3 and ESL. “It’s different in a good way coming from a middle school. I did want the older age group so it’s been really cool to have higher level academic conversations and being able to connect on a different level then kids that are at a younger age. Oak Lawn has been a very well and welcoming community”, Stanton said. “I love getting involved and I’m really enjoying the transition so far. It’s different in all the best ways! I Feel really good working at Oak Lawn. The reason I wanted to come work here was immediately because all the staff has been really helpful and this is a very community driven environment and that’s something that has always appealed to me. So far being new is hard, but it’s hard no matter where you go, but Oak Lawn and the people here have really made it a smooth transition and I’m really happy to be a part of this community.
Having new teachers allows for new opportunities for not just the teacher, but the students as well. New relationships and to have a new environments in the classroom are created with the arrival of new educators. Oak Lawn Community High School is very glad to welcome Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Stanton to their new positions here at Oak Lawn.
