The Oak Lawn Theater Department is presenting “Rock of Ages” as the 2023 fall musical. Performances will be held from October 26th-28th at 7:00 pm in the Performing Arts Center. Chosen by head of the fall production, director Mrs. Elliot, this special production is on its way to becoming a top notch musical experience. If you’re not quite sure what to expect, let’s dive a bit deeper into this year’s fall production.
“Rock of Ages” is an acclaimed broadway musical turned movie that’s jam-packed with classic ‘80s rock anthems. While sticking to its roots, the OLCHS production has been modified to focus more on fun music and true ‘80s Rock & Roll. The story of a romance between a small-town girl and a city boy takes a twist as the bar where rock reigns supreme is set to be demolished. It’s then up to these wannabe rockers and their band of friends to save the day, along with the music. Featuring all the hit ‘80s rock ballads like, “I Wanna Know What Love Is,” “Here I Go Again,” “Don’t Stop Believin’,” and more, this musical is bound to make for an exciting night!
Director Mrs. Elliot explained a bit more about why Rock of Ages was chosen for this years fall musical; “I wanted to be able to feature strong supported singing, feature lots of students on the stage, add more students to our pit, and feature more of what we are trying to do with our band, choir, and guitar classes. I am really looking forward to putting everything together and seeing the whole show come to life.”
One of the main characters, Sherrie Christian, will be played by Francesca Crosby, who is really looking forward to the performance, along with growing as an actress and singer. Crosby further explains that, “The role of Sherrie Christian is difficult, but one that I have really enjoyed. She is a ball of energy, and I see a lot of myself in her. The role has come with a lot of tasking challenges. As Sherrie, a lot of my voice and time is taken, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Cosby’s words are a good indication of the effort and passion put into this musical.
