The 2023 Girls Tennis team is having a very successful season thus far. The seniors on varsity this year include Yasmine Abdelghani, Rizan Ali, Liz Concannon, Yumn Elameer, Emily Kupres, Mia Wendt, and Avery Wessel. Mia, Avery, Rizan, and Yumn were seen as spartan leaders by both the coaches and players on the team.
Mia and Avery:
“Around here, Mia and Avery is one word. They have been around the program from the very beginning of their freshman year. What is really impressive about them this year is the maturity they have shown with the team. They were the unspoken leaders from day one. All the players looked up to these two to show them the ropes, so to speak. They taught the younger players how to approach practice, how to approach an opponent, and how to approach the game itself”, Head Coach Daniel Doyle said.
Rizan and Yumn:
“Rizan and Yumn have been our most unique duo on the team the past four years. Their infectious upbeat attitude permeates the team in practice and in the games. Everyone just gets a good feeling watching Rizan bounce (and I literally mean bounce) around the court in practice and in games. Yumn brings a positivity to the team that no one has equaled in my experience”, Doyle said.
Through positive attitudes, help on the courts, and sister like relationships, Mia, Avery, Yumn, and Rizan have all bettered the tennis team this year, and years prior with their leadership towards all the players on the team.
