Mahsa Amini Inspires Iran

After the heartbreaking death of Mahsa Amini, many young women and men are inspired to protest the strict dress code enforced by the Iranian government. On September 16, 2022 the execution of Mahsa Amini occurred after she didn’t wear the hijab enforced by the Iranian government properly. Many protests have since began in the name of Mahsa Amini which begin and end in women cutting their hair and ‘freely’ wearing the clothes they wish in the name of freedom and justice. One Iranian Tiktok user reports, “The government is cutting off our internet so that they can shut our mouth. So that the whole world won’t be able to hear us and they’re killing us”. Since then many others have lost their lives in the movement such as 23 Hanane Kia and 16 year old Nika Shakarami. “We will not be silenced” say the Iranian protestors.
