The Queen’s Gambit: The Most Exciting Chess TV Show You’ll Watch!
The Queen’s Gambit is a 7 episode long mini-series from Netflix. The story is one about an orphan girl who’s a chess prodigy, and wants to become the best chess player in the world all while battling addiction and mental health. At first glance, a tv show about chess doesn’t seem like it would be exciting, but it definitely is.
The star of the show, Anya Taylor-Joy, is one of my favorite actresses. Her acting in this show is some of her best. She plays the chess prodigy, Beth Harmon, with such vulnerability and depth. The acting isn’t the only thing about this tv show that makes it great.
The show takes place in the 1960s, and it’s very clear by the costume design and soundtrack that a lot of research when into each decision. I’ve always been fascinated by this decade and I absolutely loved seeing Beth’s fashion taste evolve as she grew up and got to know herself better.
Each character has a lot of depth and although they are implemented to move along the main character’s story arc, they aren’t one dimensional. All of Beth’s friends have their own personality and all of the actors portray them very well.
Overall, I really enjoyed this mini-series from Netflix and I highly recommend it. It’s very easy to binge and the story has suspense, excitement, and heartfelt moments. You can’t help but root for Beth as she goes on to play these high intensity chess games.
