Quarantine has been kind to no one. Being exiled from the outside world, from social interaction, and from school sounds like the worst thing in the world, and on some levels, it really is. The horror of the virus in places like France, Iceland, and other susceptible countries has really shown, and the effect that the virus has had on modern life will never go away. Quarantine, however, has been more interesting rather than annoying and boring; for me at least. Every single day has been a brand new adventure of ‘what wacky house failure can happen today’. In fact, a week ago, my bathtub had partially collapsed with water flooding into the basement! It became such a huge ordeal, and we weren’t allowed to call anyone to come and fix it because of… well… covid. With the animals taking to the streets, we’ve had to constantly fend off mice in the backyard attempting to find passage into our house, and keep watch over squirrels attacking our garden. Quarantine has been somewhat of a suburban apocalypse, like a terrible Adam Sandler movie, or Attack the Block. However, all of these downsides come with some positives. For one, as a generally house bound person normally, the ability to have a constant excuse to be an indoor person has been a blessing. My art, music, game skills, and ping pong power have significantly improved, and I believe this is good reason to consider what parts of quarantine life should stay permanent. However, I can’t say my work ethic can vouch for that. Well, let’s hope that quarantine has served other homes well, and I hope that you keep washing your hands!
