The 2017 Oak Lawn Marching Band is proudly presenting music by the band Queen. Songs include, “Fat Bottomed Girls”, “We Will Rock You”, and “Bohemian Rhapsody”.

The band has been working extremely hard on a day to day basis to make the show fun to watch with the goal of having people in the stands sing and dance along. With this year being one of the largest marching bands ever at OLCHS, they have been able to reach each weekly goal and may have the whole show done in time for the Homecoming football game. A huge amount of credit goes out to Mr. Paul Levy and Mr. Bob Habersat for their determination on pushing each musician to do their best and look their best. Alongside the teachers are drum majors, senior John McLawhorn and juniors Cassidy McCormick and Noeleen Brown. But the most credit goes to all the students for their dedication.

Marching band is not only apart of band class, it’s also something you have to make time for. Practices are held every morning during common prep and the band attends each home football game to provide entertainment not only at halftime but also in the stands. This year they’ve started doing cheers including the rollercoaster, banana, and dynamite.

This year the band has swayed away from traditional marching uniforms and instead are wearing black track jackets and track pants with new tshirts. That isn’t the only thing the band has changed either. In the past students in the band often dreaded marching season but this year the drum majors have encouraged a positive, fun, and upbeat outlook on the activity and it shows in each performance.

Be sure to come out to the football games and see the amazing halftime show that is sure to make you want to get up and move. Having people appreciate the hard work they have put in almost everyday since before school started is an amazing feeling. The OLCHS Marching Band is excited to show you a little burst of excitement with their last few performances of this season. We hope to see you all at the last 3 home football games!
