The Oak Lawn community high school Chess Team currently holds a 7-2 record. Members of the team have been practicing hard on Mondays, and Thursdays to prepare themselves for the matches that they compete in every Tuesday. Senior member and board 1 player, Elizabeth Gonzalez, states, “The chess team has worked hard to improve their game. We, as a team, will continue to work hard to become better chess players in order to become the best team within our conference. I believe, with confidence, that the team will make it to state and, as we do with all our games, have fun.” As of now, the team still has more matches to play, but if they keep practicing and working to improve, making it to state should be a breeze.
