Flashback to the 80’s: Rush

Anna Gil, Music Reviewer

“Moving Pictures” is notably known as one of Rush’s greatest albums, which you can probably find in your dad’s old record collection. This album emulates the band’s transition into the 80’s: heavy use of synthesizers. “The Camera Eye” stands out to me the most, with a continuous build up of Geddy Lee on the keyboards and his striking, yet poetic vocals. This is the longest song on the album, being 10 minutes long, but every part and each instrument fuses together so beautifully it leaves you wishing there was more. There is not a minute in the song that is excessive with a pointless transition. Instead, it flows from start to finish alongside Neil Peart on drums and Alex Lifeson on guitar, with his solo towards the end of the song–a personal favorite of mine. Rush crossed over to the pop culture of the 80’s with “Moving Pictures,” but they brought their classic rock roots with them, creating a sound like no other.
