As the scholastic bowl team continues participating in competitions, the team remains successfully on top! At the Homewood Flossmoor invitational, the OLCHS team took 4th place out of 36 teams. At the next Saturday invitational, the Spartans clobbered the Richard Bulldogs in the final match of the competition 210-10. At the first conference competition the varsity team went 3-0 while JV took 1 match out of 3. At the most recent competition, OLCHS varsity Scholastic Bowl won 3 matches. The Spartans will gear up to face Shepard and Bremen at competitions in the next few weeks.

A typical Scholastic Bowl match consists of five players from each school going against each other to answer toss-up and bonus questions. The reader will ask a toss-up question where players can buzz in on their own if they think they know the answer. If the player gets the question wrong, the other team gets a chance to answer. If the person gets the toss-up correct, their school gains control for a set of three bonus questions. If the school does not answer the bonus correctly, the competitor gets a chance to steal the points.

As of January 27, Trevor Spreadbury had correctly answered over 100 toss up questions over 4 competitions. Ryan Quinn follows with more than 45 toss up questions as well. The team does especially well in questions regarding politics, history, math and science. All members of the team practice with Coach Jodelka and spend time out of school to learn more that can be used during competitions.
