OLCHS Homecoming was a success! The week started out with Pajama Day, when students could wear their pajamas to class. The rest of the spirit week followed with everyone adorning their tropical shirts on Tuesday, Homecoming shirts on Wednesday, twinning with someone on Thursday, and Spartan pride on Friday. Teachers who noticed particularly spirited students gave out raffle tickets, which could be turned in at the Media Center. There were four separate raffles, one for each grace, where students could win prizes.
Spirit Week also consisted of different events, such as the Homecoming Parade that took place on Wednesday, September 29th. Activities made floats and marched down Austin Avenue showing off Spartan Pride. Afterwards, there was an exciting pep rally and the announcement of homecoming court/king and queen. The night concluded with an astounding display of booming fireworks. Freshman Sophomore Class Advisory Board won most spirited club, while the Fishing Team won best float.
On Friday, the weekly football game was taking place. We faced Tinley Park for our homecoming game. The stands were packed with green and white, with rallying cheers and enthusiastic smiles from the Spartan student body. The Spartan Football Team had the audience on the edge of their seats until the final winning point. The stands erupted with roaring screams and cheers at the successful conclusion, and it was definitely nice to win at our homecoming game.
The Homecoming Dance was scheduled for the very next day, Saturday, October 2nd, but was postponed to the following Saturday due to inclement weather. October 9th was the date of the 2021 OLCHS homecoming dance, and it didn’t disappoint. Every student was dressed to the nines, relishing in the dance that we had missed last year. The dance started at 7:00pm and ended at 10:00pm. It was an unforgettable night for all who attended.
Homecoming this year was back and better than ever due to it’s absence last year. Although COVID precautions are still being taken every day, this school year is reaching closer to normal than last year ever did, and the presence of homecoming week and the homecoming dance reinforced that.
