This year, the speech team worked very hard to prepare for their competition season, and it paid off! Even though practices were done remotely and the tournament setting was different than in the past, the team had an amazing year despite all the pandemic protocols.

They took first place at Regionals, Conference, Forensic Faction of the Stars, and the Burbank Cinematic Universe, second at Sectionals, and third at the DGS Varsity Tournament. 13 events made it to Sectionals, 7 events made it to State, and 1 event placed and made it to the state finals.

The Regional Team Consisted of:

Ella Moore and Jake Majerczyk (DDA), James Walsh and Jada Jackson (HDA), Jada Jackson (DI), Sofia Serna (ES)(IMP), Ella Moore (HI), James Walsh (INFO), Grace Sievers (OD), Emma omg (OC), Alondra Camacho (OO), Daniel McLawhorn (PO)(PR), Emma Mathews (RS), Omar Alqazaq (SOS), and Layla Nemri, Haven Rupsch, Tori Prause, Samantha Martinez,  Alexia Stang, Emma Faucault-Miller, and Maya Quinonez (PIR).

The State Qualifiers Were:

Sofia Serna (ES)(IMP), James Walsh and Jada Jackson (HDA), James Walsh (INFO), Daniel McLawhorn (PROSE), Emma omg (OC), and Alondra Camacho (OO).

Alondra Camacho made it to the state finals and took 5th place in Original Oratory.

OLCHS hosted many of their yearly and new tournaments as well; such as: Noel in the OL, This is Sparta, and Regionals. They concluded the season with their Forensic Show which showcased performances from the regional team and the seniors.

Although most of the season was held virtually over Zoom and YouTube, the bond between the members of the team never faded. Alondra Camacho expressed, “It definitely was very upsetting not getting to spend time with my friends and my coaches, but even when we weren’t together physically, we never stopped supporting each other.” This year has been very upsetting to see the team go through so many challenges, but the coaches and OLCHS is very proud of all of you and your hard work. Best of luck to the seniors, we will all miss you!
