  • Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away last Friday, September 18. Upon hearing the news Twitter honored the late Justice by sharing her historic accomplishments along with her iconic feats for women’s and LGBTQ rights. Although being 1 of the 9 women in her class, she graduated at the top of her class at Cornell. Later when she discovered that she and her female colleagues were being paid significantly less than their male counterparts she filed an Equal Pay Act complaint, and won it. Later she would become the first female law professor at Columbia. Then she co-founded the Women’s Right Project, where she helped write an ACLU brief in Reed vs. Reed. A case where she argued in front of the Supreme Court that there was discrimination “against women in awarding the child’s estate”. She would argue 5 more cases before the Supreme Court before soon joining it in 1993. She was appointed by President William Clinton and made history as the second woman to sit on the bench of the United States Supreme Court. From there she would continue to make strides in women’s rights. Some being the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, calling for equal pay, Roe v. Wade. Ginsburg was also a crucial vote in the granting of same-sex marriages in 2015. While millions of tweets were sent across the platform remembering these triumphs, an equal amount went into the discussion of whether there would be another appointment this year, or that would go to the next elected president. This highly controversial topic has become the new top trending topic on Twitter and will continue to do so until the vote for the nominee.

Using shortcut allows you to change the image of the app icon of your choosing, along with the background of the new widgets feature. This has proven good for some very aesthetically pleasing home screens. Users are sharing screenshots of their new home screen via the hashtag #iOShomescreen.

  • Breonna Taylor

Protests across the country are occurring over the grand jury’s decision on the Breonna Taylor case. Attorney General of Kentucky Daniel Cameron announced on September 23 that the only charge that would be given was one count of first-degree wanton endangerment to officer Brett Hankison. This meaning there would be no charges directly tied to Breonna’s actual death. Some like author Peter Dauo are furious over the charge saying “A black woman was murdered and the only charge was for endangering white people”. While others such as Fox Nation host Tomi Lahren saying in a tweet“It is a TRAGEDY but it is not MURDER.

  • Emmys

The Emmys took place virtually on Sunday, September 20th. Once again Jimmy Kimmel hosted the show for the 4th time. He was alone at an empty Staples Center, however, there were cardboard cutouts of celebrities in the audience to take away from the awkwardness of the situation. The biggest highlights of the night was a mini Friends reunion and Zendaya making history as the youngest lead actress to win an Emmy. But one thing that Twitter found particular amusing from the night was the way awards were being delivered. Different people would come to each nominee’s house in a hazmat suit with an Emmy in hand. If the person loses the person would wave goodbye and leave.

People found screenshots of old tweets from Demi’s now ex-fiance, Max Erich, flirting with Selena Gomez. Who Demi seems to have a “beef” with at the moment. Some screenshots included Max saying that he thought Selena was prettier than Demi. The screenshots went viral. So viral that Demi released a statement claiming that the screenshots were fake. But reports came out days later that the couple had broken off their engagement. Articles said that a source close to them revealed that “It was a tough decision, but Demi and Max have decided to go their separate ways to focus on their respective careers… They have respect and love for one another and will always cherish the time they spent together.”
