On January 31st, the mighty Spartans hosted Chicago Christian and Evergreen Park for the annual Paint the Gym Purple night. In the second half of the girl’s varsity game against Chicago Christian, Saleh, #3, scored eight points, Kennelly, #35, scored seven points, Janks, #14, scored seven points, and Cameron, #15, scored an outstanding twenty eight points. The girl’s varsity team worked incredibly hard throughout the entire game and triumphantly won with a final score of fifty four to twenty eight. At the boys varsity game, both Osmani and Ward made fans proud as Osmani, #00, scored twenty three points, Ward, #3, scored twenty eight points, leading the boys varsity team to victory as well against Evergreen Park with a final score of seventy eight to forty eight. Sami Osmani, a senior said, “It was a great game, we played great team ball. Our defense was solid and our point guard Trey Ward stepped up big time. I would like to thank all of the fans for coming out.” This year there was a huge turnout and the stands were packed with generous Spartan fans donating money to Relay for Life. Throughout the game, our outstanding cheerleaders helped to raise more money by selling raffle tickets for a Relay for Life basket and asking for donations. To help those in the community, NHS sponsored Sock the Court, in which fans brought as many socks as they could and tried to throw it in a bucket for a cash prize during half time. The event was a huge success and over three hundred socks were donated to local homeless shelters. While some may say the world appears bleak, everyone in that gym knew that through Spartan pride everyone can come together to make a huge difference in the world while supporting their fellow Spartans who excel in basketball.
