Hurricane Florence’s devastating waves over the coastlines of the Carolinas.

At first, a mere tropical wave passed through the African waters, seeming to be harmless. That was, until it made its way into the Atlantic and began to brew as a deathly storm between September 4th and 5th. By September 10th, it was officially classified as a Category 4 hurricane, given a name as well, as it was announced to the public. As the hurricane was strengthening during this time, it was dubbed as Hurricane Florence; Florence, meaning to blossom― and seemingly so as it blooms its predicament in the East Coast. North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia all issued an evacuation for their coastal communities. The hurricane was able to spawn tornadoes in further locations on the east coast, causing extended disturbances.

Over 330,000 people are left without power during these stressful moments in North Carolina. Access to supermarkets has also become a struggle for those who need to stock up during the storm. Whilst many have been fending to help themselves, unfortunately, the death toll has been risen to at least thirty-six individuals, 26 of being from North Carolina. Fortunately, thousands have been rescued by evacuation and by providing shelters as well.

More than 1,500 workers in the East Coast have set up aiding and organizations for relief for hurricane victims. However, it is not only the East Coast that is limited to helping those who are struggling during this ongoing natural disaster. Various organizations have been open for donations and funding, spanning from The American Red Cross, to GlobalGiving, as well as sports associations such as the NBA. On top of that, donations other than food, water, and or funding of money is not the only thing able to be given. Blood donations as well have been ongoing in local hospitals as well as much of the East Coast.

Though the progress of helping those affected by the hurricane has been substantial, it is, without a doubt, going to be quite a dilemma for reconstruction of the disaster, afterwards. It has been theorized that in order to recover the damage, over seventeen billion dollars will be necessary for the rehabilitation of the afflicted areas.
