A recent poll suggests that the United Kingdom would vote to stay in the European Union, two years after their controversial Brexit campaign.

In June 2016, 52% of British citizens voted to leave the European Union after thoughts on reduced immigration and terrorism circulated around the United Kingdom, while 42% voted to stay. Although risks of economic tension and uncontrollable immigration has a possibility of becoming a major issue, over half of British citizens remained adamant in their decision.

However, the recent poll has had surprising results. 59% of voters voted to remain in the EU, while 41% still opted out. It is estimated that over 2.6 million people had abandoned their support for Brexit and now wish to stay in the EU.

Jean-Claude Juncker, president of the European Commission, has hopes that Britain will reconsider. Speaking to the European Parliament, he says that under Article 49 of the European Union Treaty, Britain will be allowed to rejoin the bloc. Britain’s exit would be devastating to not only the EU, but the global economy.

Britain is scheduled to leave in March.
