Protesters hold signs to help keep DACA program.

DACA has always been a statement to bring up controversy between two individuals, but many who do support this program are disappointed that the program may end. People who are against it might argue that this program doesn’t help anyone at all, but in this country we are free to express our opinions.

Some may ask, “What is DACA, and why is it important?” Well, DACA is a program that was created by former U.S President Barack Obama and helped many children who are immigrants. DACA stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, meaning that undocumented children who came to the U.S. are allowed to stay here because due to the program.

The program also had many requirements in order to even be eligible to gain a license. The program allowed the undocumented child to receive their education, be allowed in the military, and work in the United States. People who are in the DACA program received up to two years of being able to go to school and work, but once the two years are up, the dreamers would have to renew their DACA membership and hopefully have their requirements met.

These people are referred to as “dreamers” and the DACA program is also known as the  “dreamers act.” The administration of Trump originally wanted to end the DACA program arguing that it was illegal. Former U.S President Barack Obama passed this program without the approval of congress, which led to many people signing up for the program; it was passed on since 2012. When President Trump heard of this he wanted to fix the mistakes that DACA held within it’s program and wanted to keep the program running.

President Trump reassured the people in the DACA program that they could rely on him. But the program may be ending soon because it’s unlawful and there are 800,000 people in the program that are on their last cards, which would make it easy to end. Many people still fight for what they want, and many undocumented children want to be here and want to get their full rights as an individual.

The Trump administration could not fix the issue at the moment due to the hurricanes that took the lives of many people. Their main focus is to help the victims of the hurricane catastrophe. This is why they are pending the DACA program at the moment, president Trump still fights for a chance to keep the program running, but it may not stay that way for long. Dreamers are at stake because once their “permits” expire, they could be sent back to their original country until congress decides to either end or continue with the program.
