Magnificent Mangapolis

Every year, the Anime/Sci-fi Club holds an event called Mangapolis, where people from middle and high schools are invited to come have fun and see what OLCHS’s Anime club is all about. Mangapolis, a pun on the word manga (Japanese comics), is thrown together in the media center once a year to showcase the club, to brighten its reputation, and to possibly gain new recruits. The club itself specializes in science-fiction and anime, a type of animation style originating from Japan. People who join this club are often fans of one or the other, or even both. Throughout the year, the Anime/Sci-fi Club puts together fun activities, such as video game tournaments or cooking days, for the club members to do at each meeting.

This year, Mangapolis ran from 3:30pm-5pm in the Media Center on April 14, 2016. It’s safe to say the event was a success, with fans from all around gathering in the media center to eat pizza and Japanese snacks, play cards and video games, visit the art gallery, and learn to paint sumi-e (a traditional Chinese art style), amongst other activities. It was definitely enjoyable, and the visitors told me themselves that they would definitely agree.
